"A great idea for coconut lovers - see how to make your own coconut flakes"

Ingredients

  • coconut - 1 pc.
measures

How to make

Preheat the oven to 320°F (160°C). Prepare a tray with baking paper. A hammer, grater and a butter knife are needed.

First, open up the coconut and take out the white part. This is done with a hammer and a butter knife. Place the coconut in your hand and with the hammer, start hitting it in the middle, by turning it after each hit.

After a few hits, it will burst, so it is best to do it over a bowl, so that you don't lose the water from the coconut, because it is very tasty to drink and you can add it to cakes or various savory dishes.

Pass the knife between the shell and the nut (the white part) until they separate. When they separate, you will see that the white coconut is covered with a brown something, that looks like a peel and you can remove it, if you like.

The next step is to grate the coconut - I used the largest grater. Distribute the flakes evenly in the tray, turn off the oven, put the tray in it and leave them in it until the oven cools or about 45 minutes.

This time is enough for the flakes to dry out and remain white, but if you want them to have a light golden color, remove the tray from the oven and let it heat up again at 320°F (160°C).

Once it warms up, turn it off again and put the flakes in for another 10-15 minutes or until you get the desired result.
