"Genuine baklava - with an irresistible aroma and handmade phyllo pastry sheets."

Ingredients

  • milk - 3/4 cup
  • eggs - 3
  • yeast - 1 cube
  • salt - a pinch
  • flour - as much as it absorbs
  • margarine
  • walnuts
  • cinnamon
  • for the syrup
  • sugar
  • water - one to one proportions with the sugar

How to make

Mix the first four ingredients and add as much flour as it will absorb. Knead and divide it into 4 balls. Roll out each ball into a circle, but not too thinly. Smear each sheet with margarine, and cover the last one with margarine, walnuts and cinnamon.

Roll all the sheets up together and then cut it into individual bites. Arrange them in a oiled baking dish, leaving about 1 inch of space between them. Allow to rise. Bake in a preheated oven at 390°F (200 °C). After baking, leave to cool. In a pot, put the water and sugar on low heat until the sugar melts.

Top the cooled baklava with the hot syrup.
