How to make

Dissovle the yeast with a few tablespoons warm water and a pinch of sugar and let it rise in a warm place. Mix the milk, butter, orange rind and salt in a saucepan and set them to heat until the butter is melted.

Sift flour in a pan together with anise and in a well in the middle, add yeast, the orange-milk mixture and egg. Knead soft dough slowly. Put it in a greased bowl, cover and leave in a warm place to rise until doubled in size. Divide the risen dough into 3 equal pieces, shape them into oblong, slightly flat wicks and braid them together.

Place these in a greased baking dish or form and brush with a mixture of beaten egg and milk. Then sprinkle them with sugar, sesame seeds and almonds.

Leave to rise again and put to bake in the preheated to about 350°F (175 °C) oven for about 35-40 minutes.
