Marinated Cherries

Everyone's heard of marinating meat or vegetables but it's a lesser known fact that fruits can also be marinated. With various spices and flavors added, they turn into a wonderful garnish to meat dishes, fish or even stand-alone in the form of a fruit salad.

But when marinating fruits, it's good to close them in jars and sterilize after you've added your favorite flavors to them. This way, not only will the fruits fully take in the aroma of the spices, you'll also be able to store the marinated fruits longer. Here are several ways of marinating fruits:

Marinated sour cherries or cherries

Ingredients: about 11 lb sour cherries or cherries, several cloves, 1 stick cinnamon; a marinade made from 8 1/3 cups water, 3.5 lb sugar, 5 1/5 cups vinegar.

Preparation: Wash the fruits, pour them into jars. Add a small piece of cinnamon and 1-2 cloves per jar. Make the marinade by putting the water to boil with the sugar, then add the vinegar. While still warm, pour thus prepared marinade over the fruits, close the jars and sterilize them for 10 min.

Marinated grapes
