Inhabitants of the Mediterranean countries focus on putting oregano and basil in their recipes. Usually they complement each other quite well and are especially suitable for adding to pasta and pizza.
Both these spices can be used on their own as well, with basil traditionally used to season salads. Now let us offer you 3 recipes with basil to satisfy your taste buds:
Aromatic Olive Oil with Basil
Ingredients: 4 1/5 cups extra-virgin olive oil, several stalks of fresh basil with the leaves, 8 garlic cloves, several black pepper peppercorns.
Preparation: Put the basil, garlic cloves and black pepper grains in the olive oil bottle and let them sit that way for at least 2 months. You can use this aromatic olive oil to make the perfect green salads, tomato salads, pastas, pizzas and more.
Salad with Tomatoes and Basil
Ingredients: 3-4 tomatoes, 2 garlic cloves, several leaves of fresh basil, several leaves arugula, 5.5 oz buffalo cheese, 2 tbsp olive oil, 1 tbsp ground walnuts.
Preparation: Peel the tomatoes and cut them into slices. Arrange thin slices of cheese on top of them. Pour on the olive oil, salt, sprinkle with the mashed garlic and then sprinkle with the finely chopped leaves of basil and arugula. Put the walnuts at the very top.
Pizza Dough with Basil
Ingredients: 1 cup yoghurt, 1 tsp baking soda, about 2 cups flour, 3 tsp olive oil, 1/2 tsp powdered garlic, 2 tsp dried basil.
Preparation: Mix part of the flour with the yoghurt, in which you dissolved the baking soda, in a bowl. To this add the olive oil, basil and powdered garlic and stir everything. Add enough flour to get a smooth dough.
The good thing about this is besides being easy to make, you can use the dough immediately. You don't have to wait for it to rise. This dough is enough to make 2-3 round pizzas. If you want to make just 1, you can store the dough in the fridge for several days.
