Quark Cheese Spread

What is quark cheese?

Quark is a soft, fresh cheese that can be made from different types of milk - from goat, sheep or a mix between the two types of milk. Its texture approaches that of ricotta cheese.

During the production process, which lasts about 48 hours but also varies depending on the time of year, it should not ripen at all. As soon as it is ready, you can consume it both on its own and as an ingredient in various recipes.

Why use quark cheese?

Quark has a number of useful nutritional properties - it is rich in high content of protein and calcium, which help in care for the health of teeth and bones, of vitamins of group A and B. For this reason quark cheese is used by many fans of good and tasty cuisine.

Quark cheese can be made with whole, low-fat or skimmed milk. Because of its high water content, it spoils easily. Quark intake is not suitable for people with lactose intolerance as it contains lactose.

What recipes do you add quark in?

Due to its creamy, flexible structure, quark can be used in almost all savory and sweet recipes - cakes, soufflés, cheesecakes, biscuits, sauces, yogurt spreads for spreading slices of bread for breakfast or as a substitute of yogurt or sour cream in some dishes and various delicious salads.

For a light and healthy breakfast, combine this special cheese with seasonal fruits, nuts and seeds.

An extremely delicious idea for lunch or dinner for the whole family is oven-baked potatoes, which can be covered with a mixture of quark and various fresh spices.

For the yogurt salad, you can replace the strained yogurt with quark. For this purpose, you will need 1 package of quark, pickles or fresh cucumbers, walnuts, salt, oil, dill and 2 cloves of garlic. Mix all the finely chopped products in a bowl without the walnuts, add quark and mix well. Leave for several hours in the refrigerator. Before serving, shape into balls and sprinkle with walnuts.

To make blueberry cheesecake with a quark cheese addition, simply substitute it for the cream cheese or mascarpone. As usual, form a base at the bottom with crushed (about 125 grams) of biscuits and 50 grams of melted butter, then leave it for 10 minutes in the freezer. Flavor 250 grams of quark cheese with powdered sugar and pour the mixture over the base. Put it for 3-4 hours in the refrigerator. Add whole blueberry jam all over. Serve with a scoop of homemade vanilla ice cream.

Look for quark cheese in your nearest health food store or larger supermarket.
