Hot chocolate is one of the classic winter drinks. As the temperature drops outside, you get the desire to prepare something tasty and something that will warm up your soul. But hot chocolate is also something personal, because people have different tastes and the sweetness of it can vary.
Therefore, hot chocolate recipes differ from each other, they vary in terms of the amount and type of chocolate and the sugar added in them.
The classic way for making hot chocolate, requires you to use full fat milk and dark chocolate. Cream, alcohol, cinnamon and even chili are allowed to be used. Aromatic spices are a matter of taste.
When making hot chocolate, whipping the milk into a froth is crucial. This is done so that the fat molecules can group together and give a nice density to the milk. Then the milk is boiled.
Meanwhile, the chocolate (dark or milk) is grated and melted in a water bath, then added to the hot milk. The mixture is mixed gently, sprinkled with cinnamon or chili (yes, chili, because the spice gives it an unique taste) and it is served immediately.
You can add cognac, liqueur, bay leaf or a few drops of whiskey to the hot chocolate, as long as you don't consume it early in the morning.
