How to Make Date Paste

Date paste is an amazing dish based on dried dates with the addition of nuts and cocoa powder. This paste is very similar to the familiar Nutella, but it is more healthy. Such paste is not only tasty, but also a dietary product, since it is prepared without a gram of sugar.

To prepare date paste you will need about 250 grams of dried dates, 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder, 1 tablespoon of lemon juice (or cognac), 50 grams of nuts if desired (or nut mix), a few pinches of cinnamon (optional).

Prepare the necessary products. Remove the pits from the dates. Pour the dried fruit with hot water: if they are soft - for 5 minutes, if they are hard - for 15 minutes. Drain the water, strain the dried fruit lightly. Blend the dates with a blender or food processor until smooth.

For the next step, we need a coffee grinder or chopper. The nuts are poured and grinded into fine crumbs or flour. It is best if the nuts have been soaked in water in advance.

Mix the blended dates with the grinded nuts. Add cocoa powder and cinnamon if you like and blend again until smooth. You can use other spices according to your taste. Finally, add lemon juice or cognac (also optional, you can do without them) and mix again.

Place the prepared homemade date paste in a glass container with a lid and refrigerate for 30 minutes. Close tightly with a lid and place it in the refrigerator. Your date paste is ready. You can use it on healthy biscuits, croissants, muffins, flourless sponge cake, slices of bread, mekitsi, as a topping for raw cakes or just eat it with a spoon. Enjoy your meal!
