"It`s good to always have at least 1 jar of Marigold Healing Salve in the fridge. You never know when you`ll need it."

Ingredients

  • marigold - 2 handfuls of the herb
  • lard - 1 cup (250 ml)
measures

How to make

Marigold (Calendula officinalis) is a garden, Mediterranean flower with potent healing properties. The salve made from this herb has a wide variety of applications in traditional medicine.

Wash and thoroughly dry the flowers, along with their green stems, then chop them finely. Put them in a glass container, along with the unsalted pork lard.

Heat the mixture on very low heat, in order not to burn the lard. Once the flowers braise a bit, stir the mixture and remove from the heat.

Cover with foil and leave in a cool area for 24 hours. The next day, heat the mixture slightly on a water bath.

Filter it through a linen cloth and pour into prepared clean and dry glass jars. I always use caviar, mustard or face cream jars - they're most suitable for this. They make a practical curative gift for loved ones and friends. Store in the fridge.

You can use the residue from the drained flowers as an herbal compress to treat varicose veins. The compress is usable 3-4 times.

Marigold salve helps wounds heal and new tissues form. It's suitable for inflamed veins, varicose vein ulcers, fistulas, frostbite and burn wounds.

Tip: If you're lard intolerant, you can use butter or olive oil.
