Ingredients

  • phyllo pastry - 17.5 oz (500 g), sheets
  • eggs - 4
  • sugar - 1 cup
  • oil - 1/2 cup
  • walnuts - 1 cup
  • semolina - 2 tbsp
  • vanilla - 2
  • baking powder - 1 tsp
  • flour - 1 cup
  • butter - 1/2 cup (125 g)
  • syrup
  • water - 3 1/2 cups
  • sugar - 3 cups
  • vanilla - 1

How to make

Beat the eggs with the sugar well using a mixer and add the semolina and oil. Then add the vanillas and the flour sifted with baking powder.

Stir with a wooden spatula. Next, add the walnuts and stir again. Take a suitable tray and begin arranging the phyllo pastry sheets. Place half the sheets and the filling. Put the remaining sheets on top.

Melt the packet of butter and pour it over the baklava. Put it to bake in a preheated 360°F (180 °C) oven. Once it's ready, leave it to cool and cut it into squares.

Make the syrup: put the water and sugar to boil in a pot. Leave to boil 10 min. and add the vanilla. Let it cool just a bit so it's not hot and pour it over the cooled baklava. Let it sit for 5 hours (overnight is best) before serving.
