"Get your phyllo pastry sheets out of the fridge because today we`re making apple strudel - it`s going to be fantastic, we promise."

Ingredients

  • phyllo pastry - 1 packet, fine sheets
  • apples - 2 large
  • walnuts - 1/5 cup (65 g)
  • sugar - 6 tbsp
  • breadcrumbs - 2 tbsp
  • cinnamon - 1/2 tsp
  • powdered sugar - for sprinkling (can use a little cinnamon too)
  • butter - for smearing
measures

How to make

Peel the apples, clean and grate them on a grater, sprinkle with the coarsely ground walnuts, sugar, breadcrumbs, cinnamon and stir well.

Smear each sheet generously with the melted butter. Fold it in half several times, while smearing with butter each time you do - the idea is to make it 3-4 sheets thick.

Put some of the prepared filling at one end and wrap it into a roll. Press on the 2 ends of the roll to prevent the filling from leaking out. Transfer the rolls into a buttered tray.

Make small cuts along the surface of the rolls, to allow them to breathe. Bake the strudel at 390°F (200 °C) until reddened. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and cinnamon if desired.
