"You take and eat, take and eat - and so on, until you run out of these sweet bread buns"

Ingredients

  • flour - 1.1 lb (500 g)
  • water - 4/5 cup (200 ml)
  • olive oil - 1/2 cup (120 ml) + for spreading
  • fresh yeast - 0.9 oz (25 g)
  • sugar - 4 tbsp. + for sprinkling
  • anise - 1 tsp. of grains+ for sprinkling
  • salt - 1 pinch
measures

How to make

The water and olive oil are mixed and heated to 100°F (37°C). The yeast and two spoons of sugar are dissolved in them.

The flour is sifted into a bowl, a pinch of salt, the remaining sugar and the anise grains are added.

Make a well in the middle and pour the liquid mixture with the yeast into it.

A smooth and greasy dough is kneaded, which is kneaded for at least 10 minutes to absorb the olive oil well.

Let it rest for 15 minutes and divide it into 12-14 small balls.

The shaped sweet bread buns are spaced apart in a tray lined with baking paper.

Cover them with cling film and let them rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until they have tripled in size.

Spread them with olive oil and sprinkle them with granulated sugar and anise grains.

Ochios Sweet Bread Buns are baked in an oven heated to 360°F (180°C) until golden brown - 20-25 minutes.

They are eaten warm, smeared with butter, jam, liquid chocolate or whatever your heart desires :)

When the bread buns cool and are left for a few hours they may dry out, so if you are not going to eat them right away, store them in a well-sealed airtight container.
