How to make
Place the room temperature softened butter in a bowl along with the sugar. Beat with a mixer, until a smooth cream is obtained.
Add the eggs one at a time, while beating with a mixer, until they are well absorbed by the butter cream.
In another bowl sift the flour with the baking powder, cinnamon and a pinch of salt. Add the ground walnuts to the dry mixture.
Flavor with grated lemon peel and cinnamon.
In small portions, add the dry mixture to the butter mixture, by stirring with a spoon, until a homogeneous mixture is obtained.
Line a 11x11″ (28x28 cm) baking pan with baking paper. Pour in the cake mix and level it out.
In a bowl, combine 1.8 oz (50 g) coarsely chopped walnuts, crushed biscuits, 1.8 oz (50 g) slightly melted butter, 1.8 oz (50 g) brown sugar, rum and cinnamon. Mix the products.
Remove the seeds from the apples and carve them out. Fill them with the mixture.
Place them on top of the walnut cake.
Bake at 360°F (180°C) in a preheated oven with a fan for about 40 minutes.
Cool the finished apple cake on a wire rack and sprinkle it with powdered sugar!
Enjoy!
Note: For this Cake with Whole Apples and Walnuts you can substitute the almond biscuits for something else. The combination of almonds and cinnamon is not to everyone's taste, so decide for yourself!
