Does Chicken Need to be Washed Before it is Cooked?

Chicken meat is one of the most delicious and healthy meat. Chicken contains proteins that help the good growth and development of the body; proteins that are suitable for people who exercise; zinc, calcium and many other ingredients that are extremely beneficial to our body and health.

You will find many opinions on the topic of washing the chicken before any heat treatment. Some say that the ingredients in the chicken's skin are very healthy, while others believe that every single product (except dry spices) should be washed beforehand.

Expert's advice is: Do not wash the chicken in advance, because this only scatters bacteria from it in your kitchen and sponges. All of these pathogens will die anyway during cooking or any heat treatment of the chicken.

This is the opinion of health experts, but many cooks do not think that they should not wash the chicken.

We all know that in the days we live in today, almost everything is treated with all kinds of pesticides and chemicals that can be quite dangerous to our health. Meat is "highly revered" in this aspect.

You've all heard of the blue stone, the chalk-like chemical, the water they are injected with (for more information, see our article - What Chicken Meat Contains).

It is all these chemicals that should be thoroughly washed off before any processing of the meat. If possible with warmer water, because we know that it dissolves bacteria. Use a dish sponge and rub the skin lightly with it, but carefully, so that you do not remove it. After all, when it is baked, it is the most delicious.

There is another way to wash chicken before cooking and remove any surface "imperfections", with baking soda and vinegar. The two ingredients in combination foam up and remove everything harmful and vinegar can remove the unpleasant odor.

In addition to all the pesticides with which the chickens have been treated, it is good to wash off the residual blood (if any), because when roasted, it leaves a rather unpleasant bitter taste that no one would like.

Our advice to you is - wash everything you plan to cook. This protects you and your family. It won't cost much time to just rinse it under running hot water and that will be your assurance that whatever you can do, you have already done.

From now on, all you have to do is choose a delicious recipe for a whole roasted chicken, breaded chicken or grilled chicken.
