How to Store Honey?

Honey has an indefinite shelf life, it is one of the most durable food products, but in order to retain its beneficial and healing properties, it needs to be stored properly.

The three important factors for honey storage are:

- away from direct sunlight;

- suitable container;

- suitable storage temperature.

One of the most important things is to keep honey away from direct sunlight because in direct sunlight it heats up and loses most of its unique beneficial properties.

It is good to store honey in ceramic and clay containers with tightly closed lids. In most cases the bee product is stored in glass jars and therefore it is important to keep it in a cool and dark place.

It is not recommended to store in plastic containers for more than two years. Honey should not be stored in containers made of zinc, copper, aluminum or other metals because of the acids they release.

The best packaging for honey is considered to be natural honeycomb. It is best stored at a temperature of 4 to 20°C.

If stored at temperatures above 20°C, it darkens and loses its beneficial properties.
