Studies have produced different recommendations over the years. But your individual water needs depend on many factors, including your health, how active you are, and where you live.
What are the health benefits of water?
Water is the main chemical component of your body and makes up about 50% to 70% of your body weight. Your body depends on water to survive. Water cleanses us of waste through urination, perspiration and bowel movements, keeps our temperature normal, protects sensitive tissues.
How much water should you drink every day?
In order for your body to function properly, you need to drink enough water every day, including all other drinks and foods. For men, this amount on average is 3.7 liters, and for women – 2.7 liters of fluids. About 20% of daily fluid intake usually comes from food and the rest from beverages.
You've probably heard the advice to drink eight glasses of water a day. This is easy to remember and a reasonable goal. For some people, this may be enough, even less, but for others, more may be needed.
How to calculate how much to drink according to our weight?
As a general rule, you can use this simple calculation. Water (in liters) to drink per day = Your weight (in kg) multiplied by 0.033.
For example, if you are 60 kg, you should drink about 2 liters of water every day. If you are 70 kg - about 2.30 liters, and so on.
