Pumpkin for a Baby - When and How?

If it's time to feed your baby with new food, one of the first foods you can offer is pumpkin.

It can be introduced as soon as the child is ready to start eating solid food, which is usually around 6-7 months of age.

Pumpkin is rich in vitamin A, which helps strengthen the baby's eyesight, growth and immune system. Depending on the variety, pumpkin also contains other essential nutrients such as vitamin E, vitamin B6, vitamin C, fiber, folic acid, fiber, potassium, iron, etc.

Pumpkin is not an allergen, but it has a laxative effect, so it is advisable to introduce it gradually, like any other new food for the baby.

Start by offering a small amount on your own. If everything is fine, gradually increase the amount.

Age 6-9 months:

Offer the baby boiled pumpkin - without skin and pureed, to eat with hands or a spoon. You can also give the child pieces of well boiled pumpkin, letting them explore the food on their own. Because the pumpkin is very soft, the choking hazard is minimal, but still monitor the baby's feeding and be careful.

Age 9-12 months:

You can continue feeding with pumpkin puree as well as combine it with other purees and porridges.

Age 12-24 months:

Start offering bite-sized pieces of well-cooked pumpkin. Offer a fork to encourage the child to handle utensils.
