Naphthalene is a substance used to make paints, explosives, plastics and lubricants. In the home, however, we often use it as a measure against moths.
Even our grandmothers, as well as theirs, put it between clothes, carpets to protect them from being eaten by insects.
The problem, however, is the strong naphthalene smell that lingers afterwards.
People have tried everything to remove it, but it has been unsuccessful.
Here are some tricks that will come in handy if you want to remove the smell of naphthalene.
If you are taking your clothes out of the closet and the naphthalene smell is too strong, add half a cup of baking soda to the rinse as you wash them, this should kill the smell.
It is also good to leave the clothes that have lost the smell outside for at least a day, maybe two, because the sun and the air help to remove it.
Another useful trick is to put two tablespoons of mustard in a container and leave it in the closet for about 8-10 hours. This will remove the smell not only from the clothes, but also from the room. If you have mustard powder, you can sprinkle it inside and let it sit for a day or two.
