When are Peas Given to a Baby?

Peas are vegetables rich in vitamin A, vitamin C, calcium and iron, as well as a source of protein and carbohydrates. It is a candidate to become one of the first vegetables that your baby will eat after the age of 6 months. It is recommended that babies are given vegetables before fruit. That is, because babies who are accustomed to the taste of fruit often refuse to eat vegetables.

When buying peas, choose bright green. Do not use canned ones when cooking peas for your baby. You can make a puree of fresh or frozen peas.

If you want to freeze the fresh peas you buy them in the summer, wash them and put them directly in the freezer, by putting them in small portions, convenient for freezing and then for cooking and freeze them. This way you can store frozen peas in the freezer for up to 6 months.

Here is a practical pea recipe with two ingredients that you can offer your baby after the age of six months.

Peas - 1 cup

Unsalted cottage cheese - 1 tsp.

Put 1 1/2 cup of cleaned and washed peas in a small pot and put it on the stove to boil. After boiling, leave it for 20-25 minutes on low heat, until the peas soften.

Mash the peas and strain them to remove the flakes, add 1 tsp. of unsalted cottage cheese and stir.

Serve it to your baby at normal room temperature.

You can make the pea puree as a soup if you add more water.

After introducing peas to your baby, you can make different purees by mixing them with yogurt, potatoes, carrots and rice.
