How to make
German Speculaas Christmas Cookies for a festive vibe at home.
In a bowl, mix the flour, baking soda, salt and spices.
In another bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add half of the flour mixture while constantly beating on low speed. Next, add the milk and the remaining flour mixture. Shape the dough, wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate until firm, at least 2 hours or up to overnight.
Divide the dough into two or three balls and roll each one out one by one on a floured surface. Cut out Christmas cookies with speculaas cutters, which are usually rectangular in shape. In this case, I used a rolling pin with a relief and cut out cookies with a round cutter.
Arrange the Christmas cookies on a baking tray covered with baking paper, which you need to put in the refrigerator for half an hour.
Bake the cookies in a preheated oven at 360°F (180°C) for about 10-15 minutes or until the edges start to brown.
