"You simply have to have an onion pie for New Year`s Eve!"

Ingredients

  • flour - 2 cups (500 g)
  • lard - 1/5 cup (60 g)
  • butter - 1/5 cup (60 g)
  • feta cheese - 9 oz (250 g)
  • eggs - 4
  • onions - 7 oz (200 g)
  • sauerkraut - 1/2 head
  • salt - 1/2 tsp

How to make

Knead a dough from the flour, 1/2 tsp salt and some water, then divide it into 9 balls. Flatten them into pitas, put them on top of each other in 3's for a total of 3 sets, and smear with lard between them. Roll them out into 3 sheets.

Put the first sheet in a greased tray and in the middle, place the sauerkraut that has been sauteed until soft, with the onions around it – pre-fried, cooled and mixed with part of the feta cheese and 2 eggs. Wrap the filling with the second sheet, butter it.

Sprinkle the third sheet with the remaining crumbled feta cheese, that has been beaten with 2 eggs, and wrap into a roll. Wind the roll along the edge of the tray. Pour melted butter over the New Year’s Onion Pie and put it to bake in a moderate oven.
