"Make a great first impression with this White Asparagus and Ham Appetizer"

Ingredients

  • asparagus - 0.9 lb (400 g) white, fresh or canned
  • mayonnaise - 15 tbsp.
  • ham - 10 wide, thin slices
  • cherry tomatoes - 6 pcs.
  • arugula leaves
  • baby spinach - for decoration
  • black pepper - 2 pinches, freshly ground
  • olive oil - 2 tbsp.

How to make

This appetizer idea is very easy to execute when you use ready-made marinated asparagus from a jar.

Fresh ones are also not difficult, as long as you can find them in stores. Choose thicker ones, in my case 8 pcs. - 0.9 lb (400 g).

Peel them carefully with a vegetable peeler, keeping the tips and cutting off the hard part at the base.

Boil them in salted water with a pinch of sugar added as well. They should soften slightly but not fall apart, cooking time depends on thickness and our larger asparagus will take about 15 minutes.

It's best to have them upright with the tips up because they can cook faster than the stem and break, which is not desirable, so don't submerge them in the water until the final 5 minutes.

The heat should be moderate, medium heat of the hob.

The cooked white asparagus are cooled completely.

Thin large pieces of ham (any other fillet can be used, for example turkey) are rolled out, smeared with mayonnaise and one asparagus is placed, which is wrapped.

Arrange on a platter and garnish with fresh arugula and baby spinach leaves. The cherry tomatoes are placed around.

The asparagus and ham roll is drizzled with olive oil and sprinkled with freshly ground black pepper.
