How to make
Classic recipes are something that never gets old and is loved by generations after generations.
Homemade sponge cake is one of those ever-loved classics.
The good thing about this easy sponge cake is that it can be combined and made in different forms with the addition of all kinds of flavors, fruit and chocolate.
Here we have chosen to enrich it with chocolate and walnuts and the fresh scent of orange complements it in the perfect combination.
The finely grated citrus peel is mixed with the sugar and it can even be grinded with it. This is a trick that makes the aromatic oils of the orange come out even more.
Beat the citrus sugar with the eggs and beat them into a fluffy and thick foam.
Add the oil, milk, pinch of salt and flour along with the baking powder (sift in portions and mix with a wooden spoon for better results).
The chocolate and walnuts are broken into pieces and are added into the resulting creamy sponge cake mixture.
Stir lightly and pour the mixture into a deep cake tin, which has been greased and sprinkled with flour.
Bake the orange sponge cake at 360°F (180°C) in a preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until it is fully baked.
Before removing it from the cake tin, leave the baked sponge cake with chocolate pieces and walnuts for 10 minutes and then turn it over to cool completely onto a tray or wire rack.
Enjoy!
