Everyone has their preferences when it comes to food. But the truth is, 99% of the food waste we throw away is quite healthy. Here are some examples:
Watermelon rinds
No matter how strange it might seem, watermelon rinds are exceptionally healthy and shouldn't be thrown out. Blend them in a blender and add them to a smoothie or ice cream. They contain the amino acid citrulline which improves blood circulation.
Pumpkin seeds
Instead of throwing them out, try roasting them in the oven. They are rich in vitamin E, magnesium, proteins and fibers.
Celery leaves
Besides being truly delicious, they are high in magnesium, calcium and vitamin C. Prepare them as you would any other leafy vegetable. Eating them strengthens bones and builds muscles.
Orange rinds
A lot of us use them as an air freshener. But few actually know that just like the fruit, orange peels are also rich in vitamin C and boost the immune system. The fibers in them, in turn, have beneficial effects on digestive processes. Use them as a decoration or grate them onto your chicken or fish and you won't regret it.
Onion peels
They contain the substance known as quercetin, which lowers blood pressure and helps maintain a strong immune system. To take advantage of their properties, boil them with the rest of your vegetables, then remove them. This way, they will have released their beneficial components in the water.
