How to Dry Mint?

Mint is a wonderful herb, with wonderful properties, as long as we are able to dry it and store it properly, which is also very easy. It is important for gardeners to know that if they pick it straight from the garden, they should cut the entire stems almost to the ground with the leaves, just before the mint blooms. They can be tied into small bundles and also the petals can be torn one by one (look at the bottom of each one, as very often the bugs lay their eggs there).

Depending on whether the plants are clean or have little soil (which is not alarming, because after drying, it will rot and does not harm the body - on the contrary - it contains vitamin B12), you can optionally wash and dry it.

The bundles are hung in a ventilated place and the petals are spread on a sheet of wrapping one-color beige-gray paper without ink (found in bookstores) and cover the top with another sheet of such paper.

In both way of drying mint, they should be in a place without direct sunlight, ventilated and without moisture. The petals are periodically turned over and wrapped with paper again, so that they do not get dusty. Once all the leaves are completely dry - (remove the herb from the stems) put it in a jar, or a woven bag (linen or cotton), or in a paper bag.

For longer storage of dried mint, it is good to keep them in a dark and ventilated place, so that they do not have the possibility of mold or blackening.

The other storage option, often used because it is fresher, is that it can be frozen in the freezer, both in bundles and leaves placed in an ice mold (for decoration and flavor to fresh and soft drinks).

Mint is an herb and at the same time a great spice, with many culinary applications. With its medicinal properties, if we consume it as tea, it can keep us healthy during the cold season. The interesting thing about it is that even when dried, when poured with hot water, it regains its freshness and pleasant spring scent!
