How to Process and Cook Asparagus

Asparagus is a delicious dish, which is becoming increasingly popular. It perfectly replaces meat, by the way. It is a great vegetarian dish.

Asparagus is a perennial plant whose etiolated shoots have a delicate texture and very good taste.

Their tops are removed. They are cleaned from the skin, by being careful not to damage their upper part. Wash and store them in cold water.

Before heat treatment, the asparagus is cut and arranged in bunches and the coarser bottoms are aligned.

How to cook asparagus?

It's that easy! Boil a good amount of water (you can add a little salt) in a large pot, pour the asparagus and cook for 2-3 minutes. Remember that the faster you cook asparagus, the better. The time generally depends only on the thickness of the stems. Then strain the water, put the asparagus in a plate, add spices according to your taste or lemon juice and serve.

Important! Do not add sour-tasting liquids during the preparation of asparagus (vinegar, wine, lemon juice, sauces). Its color and taste may not change for the better. Add these ingredients before serving and it will become very tasty. This applies to any method for preparing asparagus.

How to stew asparagus in a pan?

You can cook asparagus in a pan. This is not the most healthy method of cooking, but it is no less delicious. Heat oil or vegetable oil in a thick-bottomed pan. Form whole asparagus stalks or cut them diagonally into medium-sized slices. Fry them for 5-7 minutes, by stirring occasionally. Garnish with lemon juice or grated yellow cheese before serving.

Roasted Asparagus

This method of cooking is ideal if the asparagus stalks are thick and dense. It is necessary to wash and wipe them dry. Turn on the oven at 220°C. While it is warming up, you need to smear a sheet of parchment paper for baking with vegetable oil, put the asparagus on it in an even layer. Sprinkle the stems with olive oil, sprinkle them with salt and spices, then place them in the oven. After 10 minutes the dish is ready.
