How are Vine Leaves Preserved?

There are different ways to preserve vine leaves. Along with the traditional recipes for canned vine leaves and vine leaves in jars, there are other interesting methods for preserving vine leaves.

Here is one of them.

In a bottle of mineral water or other soft drink with a capacity of 500 ml without any salt or brine and without sterilization, you can store vine leaves for a year.

For this purpose, the vine leaves are washed and strained completely from the water. It is important that the bottle and leaves are completely dry!

Then cut the stalks of all the leaves. Grab five or six leaves, stacked on top of each other with their smooth side on top and roll them up. It must be thick enough to fit through the top of the bottle.

Fill the bottle with as many rolls as you can. Do not worry that they will be crushed or unrolled, this will not damage the vine leaves in any way.

Nothing but vine leaves is put in the bottle - neither salt nor vinegar - absolutely nothing! Close with a lid and store the bottle in a dark place in the basement. When you need them, cut the bottle in the middle, with a sharp knife and take out the vine leaves.

Boil them with boiling water and they are ready to be used. The only thing that is left is to decide whether the vine leaves will be used for Turkish sarma with vine leaves or lean vine leaf sarma.

This way of preserving vine leaves has been tried by me personally! It is not very popular, but it is effective and preferable! It saves time and money.
