How to make

The butter and eggs should be at room temperature. The flour is sifted. The apples are washed. Put the softened butter and brown sugar in the mixer bowl. They are beaten. Add the eggs one at a time and beat continuously.

Add the baking powder and cinnamon. Add the flour gradually, stirring the mixture continuously. Prepare a pan greased with butter. The mixture is poured into it.

The apples are cleaned from seeds and cut into crescents. They are arranged by slightly overlapping each other. The apple cake is baked in a preheated oven at 360°F (180°C) for about 40 minutes or until the German cake is ready.

For the vanilla sauce, combine the dry ingredients - starch, sugar and vanilla in a small saucepan. Mix them. Gradually add the milk while continuously stirring.

The yolks are beaten and added again with constant stirring. Put the pot on the stove at a low temperature and stir continuously until the sauce boils.

When it thickens, remove it from the heat.

Each piece of old German apple cake is served with hot vanilla sauce.
