How to make
To make this recipe, you need tubes with a diameter of 1.2″ (3 cm). You can use ones for Sicilian cannoli, or if you don't have any, make one from rolls wrapped in aluminum foil.
In a bowl, sift the flour with a pinch of salt and the vanilla. Add the eggs, sugar and cold butter (cut into pieces). Knead a soft dough. Wrap it in cling film and refrigerate it for an hour.
To make it easier to work with, divide the chilled dough into two parts. Roll each one out onto a floured surface. Cut out strips of different lengths. Coat the tubes with cold butter and sprinkle them with flour. Wrap the strips around the tubes. Spread the dough with milk and sprinkle generously with ground walnuts.
Arrange the tubes in a tray and bake at 360°F (180°C) in a preheated oven, until they aquire an appetizing color. Wait for the baked rolls to cool and release them from the tubes.
For the cream, beat the egg yolks with the sugar briefly. Add the flour and pour the milk. Flavor with vanilla. Put the pot on the stove and stir, until the cream thickens. Leave it to cool down.
While the cream is cooling, make the flames for the candles. Put the sugar in a small saucepan, add two tbsp. of water and a few drops of lemon juice. Place the saucepan on the stove and melt, until a light caramel is obtained.
Pour a small spoonful of the caramel onto a piece of baking paper and shape it into a flame. Press a piece of toothpick in the middle. Leave the caramel to harden.
After you have prepared everything, what's left is to fill the dough rolls with cream and place a flame in the middle of each candle.
Decorate the Christmas table with these unique Christmas candles with cream and have them for dessert.
Enjoy!
Note: I assure you it is not difficult at all! You can also use another recipe for the dough, in order to make the dough rolls. The only important thing is that there are no leavening agents and do not use puff pastry at all!
