"An excellent pita with which to commemorate your little bundle of joy`s first steps!"

Ingredients

  • flour - 2 lb (1 kg)
  • sugar - 2/5 cup (100 g)
  • baking soda - 1 tsp
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • oil - 3 - 4 tablespoons
  • yoghurt - 1 1/5 cups (300 g)
  • eggs - 2

How to make

Sift the flour twice with the baking soda and salt. Make a well in it and add the mixture into it, which has been prepared from beaten yoghurt, sugar, one whole egg and one egg white (the yolk is left for smearing later) and oil. Knead a smooth and elastic dough.

Knead on a floured table, shape it into a loaf and then let it rise for about 1 hour. When risen, place it in a greased baking dish with vegetable oil. To be more formal, the loaf can be decorated with shapes also made of dough (diamonds, petals, twisted dough cords, etc.).

Smear the beaten egg yolk, prick it here and there with a fork and then bake it in a moderate oven.
