For the layers, beat the eggs with the sugar well and add the flour sifted with the baking powder and vanilla. Beat everything well and pour the mixture into a greased square baking dish. Put it to bake in a moderately hot oven until ready.
Leave the cake to cool. In a pot on the stove, mix the water, sugar, butter, and once the mixture has warmed up, add the cocoa. Once the mixture comes to a boil, remove it from the heat while stirring constantly.
Pour the topping evenly over the cake and sprinkle with coconut flakes if desired. Allow it to sit for 1 hour and cut it into squares.
