Certain flowers can also help us ward off mosquitoes. Just place a few pots along the windowsill and near the door and their aroma will keep the annoying buggers at bay. The flowers you need are geraniums, marigolds, ferns and especially chrysanthemums. With them you'll be rid of mosquitoes and decorate your home as an added bonus.

And it's not just the aroma of flowers that keeps mosquitoes away, that of certain herbs has the same effect. Plant them and enjoy the fresh spices they provide - basil, rosemary, lemongrass and lavender.


The tomato is a plant that mosquitoes definitely do not like, so a tomato plant or two on the patio or even in the room (even if just decorative) will spare us the presence of the bloodsuckers during the summer.

You can also use fragrant oils as another weapon against mosquitoes. Just spray the scent of one of these oils in the air: oil of pine, common vervain, geranium, cloves, cinnamon, lavender, mint, rosemary, tea tree, citronella. All you have to do then is say, "Bye mosquitoes! "

Another trick is to cut a lemon in half and stick plenty of cloves in both halves. Place the lemon pieces with the half-stuck spices close to you, to keep the mosquitoes at bay. You can use this trick both inside the home and out.


Yet another option is to make a homemade spray from the following: water and lemon juice, water and dried lavender leaves or rose leaves, water and drops from the essential oils listed above.

Put the mixture in a spray bottle and periodically spray the air with it. You can use it in open areas as well, such as when having dinner outside.
