Much has been written about the benefits of a vegetarian diet. Now let's support it with scientific facts.
Recently one of the largest and most extensive research in the UK aimed to determine differences in the incidence of cardiovascular disease in vegetarians and people consuming meat was completed.
For 11 years, more than 45, 000 people, including 15, 100 people that were vegetarians were studied by scientists from Oxford University.
The data from this study showed that vegetarians’ likelihood of having a heart attack is three times smaller than humans consuming meat and meat products.
Scientists explain this phenomenon by the fact that vegetarians have much lower levels of cholesterol, lower blood pressure and less of them are overweight.
On the other hand, meat consumption leads to the accumulation of fatty deposits in the arteries, which can cause angina, high blood pressure and coronary heart disease. Some scholars have gone even further.
They compared non- vegetarians with smokers. According to them, the amount of cholesterol contained in an egg, causes damage to the body's equivalent of five cigarettes. The risk of developing Alzheimer's disease is also significantly increased.
To sum everything up here, we can say that vegetarians live longer and healthier lives.
