Brown cane sugar is a dietary source of carbohydrates, suitable for a balanced diet. This product came from India and started to spread in many countries.
Brown sugar is produced from sugar cane, it is not refined, it undergoes minimal refining, thanks to which the molasses - the remains of the cane juice - is preserved. This makes it not as dry as white sugar.
The sugar should generally be stored well wrapped, in a dry, dark place. In this form, it can be stored for years and keep its qualities unchanged.
Usually, the sugar is too concentrated and microorganisms cannot grow on it. But with brown sugar there is a certain difference from white sugar - it has a higher water content and is therefore ideal for the growth of molds and other microorganisms.
Therefore, brown sugar should be stored in a very dry form. Also, insects such as ants or cockroaches can gnaw the paper sugar wrappers.
For the above reasons, it is recommended that brown sugar is stored in a glass or ceramic container (jar) with a tight-fitting lid. Preferably in an airtight container.
Storage in clay vessels is also permissible, but they must be glazed, so that no moisture gets in. Room temperature is acceptable for brown sugar storage. The only thing you should not allow is proximity to products that smell, as it can absorb foreign odors.
