"With this fantastic recipe, anyone can whip up a real homemade threaded cozonac!"

Ingredients

  • milk - 1/2 cup (120 ml)
  • eggs - 4 (leave 1 yolk aside for smearing)
  • sugar - 2/3 cup (160 g)
  • butter - 4/5 cup (200 g) (I used 2/3 cup (150 g) lard + 3 1/3 tbsp (50 g) oil)
  • yeast - 1, dried
  • flour - 3 1/5 cups (750 g)
measures

How to make

Beat the eggs with the sugar, add the milk and half the butter.

Mix the flour with the yeast, then add this to the liquid ingredients (begin adding a little at a time to prevent sticking).

Begin to knead, while gradually adding the rest of the butter, little by little, until fully absorbed. Leave it to rise.

Put a filling of your choice but be careful not to press on it too much. You need to get an airy/bubbly dough in order to make the threads.

Smear with the set aside yolk, mixed with a little milk and oil, on top. After you've shaped it as desired, leave it to rise a 2nd time.

Put it to bake in a 340°F (170 °C) oven for about 35-40 min. After you take it out of the oven, smear it with a sugar syrup (1:1 water to sugar ratio) and sprinkle with sugar.

Enjoy!
