How to make
German pastry with cottage cheese and poppy seeds, which will pleasantly surprise you with its unique taste.
For this delicious German pastry, the filling is prepared first. Pour cold milk into a small pot. Add the butter, sugar and poppy seeds. Put the pot on the stove, stir the mixture and let it boil at a medium temperature. With continuous stirring, so that it does not become lumpy, semolina is added. The filling is cooked for another four to five minutes and is pulled aside to cool.
In a bowl, mix the cottage cheese, egg, a pinch of salt and vanilla. Using a mixer, whip the mixture, until a smooth and fine cream is obtained, then add it to the cooled poppy seed mixture.
The pastry base is prepared by mixing sifted flour, cold butter, which is cut into small pieces and sugar in a suitable container. By hand or with a mixer, combine the three products, until a shortbread pastry dough is obtained, which is divided into two.
A cake tin with a detachable bottom is used, the bottom of which is covered with baking paper. Cover the bottom of the cake tin with half of the dough, by pressing it with your fingers to form a base. Spread the poppy seed filling on top. Sprinkle the rest of the shortbread pastry dough over the filling without pressing it.
The pastry is baked in an oven, which is preheated to 360°F (180°C), for about 50 minutes. You should aquire a nice, light golden color. When the semolina pastry is ready, let it cool completely in the cake tin. Then the bottom of the cake tin is detached and the cake is ready to be served.
