How to make

Put the butter to melt and then cool, but don't let it harden.

Combine the flour, sugar, vanilla and baking powder in a bowl and mix. In the middle, create a well and pour in the slightly beaten eggs, cooled butter and milk.

Grate the lemon rind and start stirring. Subsequently, knead a smooth and soft dough. Heat 1 1/5 cups (300 ml) oil or pork lard in a deep pot for frying. Tear off small balls from the dough and drop them to fry until they turn a nice brown color.

When ready, remove them with a slotted spoon. Serve them dusted with vanilla powdered sugar. Castagnole are traditional Italian Carnival treats that will absolutely impress you with their taste. Enjoy!
