It is now a season, in which there is a large selection of pumpkins on the market. Pumpkin is rich in fruit sugar. In some varieties, this fruit sugar reaches 10%, so there is no need to add more sugar when roasting it.
Pumpkin is dietary and anyone who decides to go on a diet this season can include it in their menu. 3.5 oz (100 g) of pumpkin contains only 17 calories. It is beneficial for a number of diseases, especially kidney and cardiovascular diseases. The most common are the white pumpkin and the butternut squash variety. White pumpkin is not very sweet, so it should be sprinkled with sugar when it is roasted.
The roasting time for different types of pumpkins is different. It also depends on the amount of pumpkin that is roasted. You can lightly boil the pieces of pumpkin, then strain them and arrange them in a tray and bake them in a moderately heated oven at 360°F (180°C) until they aquire golden brown color. It is best if water is not added.
The most delicious is pumpkin is the one roasted with its peel. For this purpose, the whole bottom of the pan can be poured with 1 cup sugar. Arrange the pumpkin slices on top with the peel facing up and the fleshy part in the sugar. Now pour 2/5 cup (100 ml) of water and roast it until it's ready. That is how you make a stewed pumpkin.
When roasted with the fleshy part up, the color of the pumpkin needs to be watched. When it gets a brownish crust, it's ready. The time that you need to roast the pumpkin is about 50-60 minutes, depending on the type of pumpkin being roasted.
To make the roasting easier and faster, it is good to make a small incision on top of the fleshy part of the pumpkin with a knife. This makes the roasting process easier.
The pumpkin can be placed on baking paper - this will save you from washing burnt stains from the caramelized sugar with which the pumpkin is drizzled.
When roasting a white pumpkin, it can be covered with foil because the pieces are thick and require more time to roast.
Roasting a butternut squash on medium heat, takes 50 minutes and a white pumpkin is roasted for 1 hour and 30 minutes.
