How to make
Knead a dough from the products listed for it. Leave it to rise until doubled in volume. Divide it into 3 parts of different sizes (see photos).
Take the largest one and roll it out into a rectangle. Smear it with butter/oil and sprinkle with grated ham and part of the grated cheese. Wrap into a roll and place in a buttered tray, folded like a wreath.
Roll out the 2nd ball of dough into a circle and place it in the tray, covering the wreath. Smear with a little butter and cut the ends into an even number of strips. Next roll out the small part of dough. Smear with butter, arrange the bacon strips and sprinkle grated cheese.
Wrap into a roll and cut it into pieces 2″ (5 cm) thick. Arrange them upright in the center of the tray. Pull on the chopped strips a little, twist and wrap into a spiral. Cut the roll but not all the way through and leave it to rise. Smear with egg beaten with a little milk.
Bake at 390°F (200 °C) about 45 min. or until ready. Take the loaf out and smear it with butter. Wrap with a clean towel and leave to cool.
