Peppino

The Peppino tree /Solanum muricatum/, is known as an exotic name. Peppino originates from South America, where the ancestors of the Peruvians and Chileans have cultivated it thousands of years ago.

Like corn, its wild ancestor is not found in nature. It is grown in many temperate and subtropical regions, including Israel, Spain, the Netherlands, New Zealand and California. Like cantaloupe, Peppino a slight cavity, which is filled with sweet edible little seeds.

Peppino is a close relative to the tomato and eggplant. Grows as a perennial bush that has woody stems and reaches a height of one meter. It grows very quickly and only 4-6 months after planting provides its first fruits.
