How to make
The beef is sliced thinly against the grain into bite-sized strips, which helps ensure tenderness after cooking. It is important to use a sharp knife and cut evenly sized pieces for consistent cooking.
The broccoli is washed and cut into small florets. If desired, it can be quickly blanched in boiling water for 1-2 minutes and then drained, which helps keep its bright green color and slightly tender texture.
In a small bowl, the sauce is prepared by mixing soy sauce, oyster sauce, brown sugar, cornstarch, and water. This mixture will create a rich, glossy sauce that coats the beef and broccoli perfectly.
A large pan or wok is heated over high heat. Vegetable oil is added, followed by the sliced beef. The beef is cooked quickly for about 2-3 minutes, just until browned but still juicy inside. It is then removed from the pan to prevent overcooking.
In the same pan, garlic and ginger are added and sautéed briefly until fragrant. The broccoli is then added and stir-fried for a few minutes until slightly tender but still crisp.
The beef is returned to the pan, and the prepared sauce is poured over everything. The mixture is stirred continuously as the sauce thickens and coats all the ingredients evenly.
Finally, a drizzle of sesame oil is added for extra aroma and depth of flavor. The dish is cooked for another minute, then removed from heat.
The beef and broccoli are served immediately over warm cooked rice, allowing the sauce to soak into the rice for maximum flavor.
Serve hot over steamed white or jasmine rice. Garnish with sesame seeds or green onions if desired. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in a pan or microwave with a splash of water.
