How to make
The blue cheese is crumbled into a deep bowl. Using a cheese with a rich aroma such as Roquefort or Gorgonzola will give the mousse a stronger and more characteristic flavor.
The cream cheese is added next. It provides a smooth texture and helps balance the sharpness of the blue cheese.
Sour cream is then added to the mixture. It contributes a light tangy taste and helps create a softer and more airy mousse.
The walnuts are lightly toasted beforehand and then roughly crushed. Toasting enhances their nutty flavor and adds a subtle crunch to the mousse.
All the ingredients are blended together using a blender or immersion blender until a relatively smooth and creamy mixture forms. The texture should be soft and spreadable while still retaining a rich cheese flavor.
Once blended, the blue cheese mousse can be transferred to a small serving bowl.
For garnish, finely chopped parsley or green onion can be sprinkled on top. Siberian chives are also an excellent aromatic garnish that pairs very well with the cheese.
The finished savory mousse is served chilled and works perfectly as an appetizer or spread alongside other hors d'oeuvres.
You can also enjoy it as a flavorful addition to appetizer platters or serve it with crackers, toasted bread or vegetable sticks.
