How to make

The beef ribs are rinsed under cool water to remove any small bone fragments that may remain from cutting. After rinsing, they are patted dry with kitchen paper so the spice mixture can stick better to the surface of the meat.

The vegetables are peeled and sliced into round pieces. In a small bowl, all the spices are mixed together until evenly combined. A small portion of this spice mixture is sprinkled lightly over the vegetables.

The sliced onions are arranged first on the bottom of a baking dish, creating a base layer that will release moisture and flavor during cooking. The potato slices are placed on top of the onions, followed by the carrot slices.

The remaining spice mixture is rubbed generously over the beef ribs, making sure the seasoning coats the meat evenly on all sides. For best flavor, the ribs should be seasoned at least 30 minutes before baking so the spices can penetrate the meat.

The ribs are then arranged on top of the vegetables with the meat side facing downward. Small pieces of butter are distributed over the ribs so they slowly melt and enrich the meat during cooking.

The baking dish is covered tightly with aluminum foil. The oven is preheated to 120°C (250°F) and the ribs are baked slowly for about 3 to 3.5 hours. This low temperature allows the meat to cook gently and become extremely tender.

About 30 minutes before the end of the cooking time, the foil is removed so the American style beef ribs can develop a golden surface and slightly caramelized flavor.

Once finished, the ribs are served hot together with the roasted vegetables and juices from the pan.

American Beef Ribs Tips

Season the ribs ahead of time

Allowing the spice rub to sit on the meat improves flavor and tenderness.

Cook the ribs slowly at low temperature

Low heat helps break down connective tissue, making the meat very tender.

Keep the dish covered during most of the cooking time

Foil traps moisture and prevents the ribs from drying out.

Remove the foil at the end

This step helps create a slightly caramelized surface.

Place vegetables under the meat

They absorb the juices and spices while cooking.

Use a deep baking dish

This keeps all the flavorful juices in the pan.

Let the ribs rest briefly before serving

Resting helps the juices redistribute throughout the meat.
