Tender fried octopus with garlic, olive oil and lemon - a simple Mediterranean seafood classic.

Ingredients

  • octopus - 1 kg (2.2 lb)
  • garlic - 4 cloves

measures

How to make

If using small octopus, briefly blanch them in boiling water for a few minutes.

If preparing a large octopus, simmer it for 30-40 minutes until tender.

Remove the cooked octopus, drain well, and cut into pieces.

Heat olive oil in a deep skillet. Sauté the sliced garlic cloves, then add the octopus and fry for about 10 minutes until lightly crisp on the edges.

Just before it is ready, squeeze in the juice of one lemon and add salt, oregano, black pepper, and curry powder.

Remove from heat and serve immediately.

Fried octopus is a Mediterranean classic, especially popular in Greek coastal cuisine. The key to tender octopus is proper simmering before frying, which ensures a soft interior and lightly crispy exterior.

In the US and UK, octopus has become increasingly popular in seafood restaurants and modern Mediterranean cooking. When prepared correctly, it offers a delicate, slightly sweet flavor and a satisfying texture.

This simple preparation highlights the natural taste of the octopus with olive oil, garlic, and lemon-perfect for serving as a tapas-style dish, appetizer, or light main course alongside fresh salad and crusty bread.
